3rd installment of «Builder on the run» or #KeepCalmSoyAparejador

Keep calm soy Aparejador

Well, yes, dear friends; that's what Marta and Julian must have thought when, The director of his bank recommended the contractor to them which is the subject of the 3rd chapter of Builder on the Run (you can see it here: Atresplayer link: Builder on the run episode III – #constructorValencia)

Because everyone has a "brother-in-law" who knows everything, and in banks years ago, in addition to "giving away" kitchenware, they would calmly recommend which builder you could use to do the work on your future home. Nothing ever happened.

It is the reality of any businessman or professional who is involved; word of mouth works, for better and for worse. But of course, we are not talking about buying a kitchen robot (which already costs a lot), but nothing less than invest €250,000, in the specific case of the program #constructorValenciaI refuse to believe that people would spend such a large amount of money (their half-life's work) just by asking their bank manager, the waiter at the bar downstairs or their cousin who is a salesperson for a multinational.

Personal opinions are very valid in a high percentage. Experience is a degree. But in Spain, country of picaresque par excellence, of the third-rate commission agent, there are opinions that are not free for those who offer them to their circle of friends or clients. And therefore, You have to know how to use the information very well that we ask for, even more so when we are going to buy a house and on top of that we have to take out a mortgage.

Several things were seen on the program last night; things that will help the population so that they do not make the same mistake when they buy an old house and want to renovate it.

  1. Paying a very high price for the property. I understand that the figures in the programme may be invented, but if someone pays 180,000 euros for a house that almost has to be completely demolished, they have been ripped off (we are not talking about the Golden Mile). Any investor asks before giving a cent for a business, no matter how fruitful it may seem at the beginning.
  2. Not choosing the right professional/company to do the renovation. Manolo and Benito were “geniuses” at applying gotelé, but I bet a kidney that we would have problems with them if we asked them to make a wooden coffered ceiling in a medieval castle. A simple “gun”, a guild coordinator or the bricklayer in our neighbourhood, may have very good references, but I do not consider it adequate to completely rehabilitate a house, including the structures. Let alone if we aspire to install 21st century air conditioning systems.

Graphic example: What was shown yesterday on the program was not a pathology in the wood caused by Termites #nidelejos. I am more inclined to think that it is a woodworm, which is what could make noise when eating the wood.

  3. Releasing the bills in advance without asking. Or at least that's what the protagonists of the television mess seemed to do yesterday. Since you've spent money on a project and, we assume, on project management, use the means you've hired. If I'm not a fan of it, construction foreman, an owner comes to me saying that the contractor is asking for €50,000 in advance, I set to work to find another one with fewer birds in his head. He may have moulded the titanium of the Guggenheim with his own hands, but a forest is full of shadows in which to protect oneself from the sun.
  4. Going into more debt than your financial capacity allows. This point is more difficult to understand if one is not familiar with the subject. And despite this, our grandparents were never cheated with their accounts; most of them had been hungry enough to get into places they knew they would not be able to reach. Banks did not work the same as they do now, but wherever the bank sets foot, there is business and that costs us money; especially if we do not we understand what we sign.

If I analyze the program as a spectator, is much more entertaining in the investigation part to find the fugitive builder. Eugenia keeps pulling the thread, until she manages to find the Argentine "technician" who, to top it off, He was a surveyorAnd it is clear that there are black sheep in every flock.

This Cristian, once discovered, wants to play the victim because they owe him money. And as a gesture of good faith, offers its tools to the owners so that they can finish the work themselves because he no longer has the structure to carry it out… What a thoughtful gesture, my friend!

Logically, the program calls its usual collaborators and in the end, they end up converting a half-built house into a Fantastic home with beautiful interior design details. Because they don't say they spend money on technicians, that doesn't sell among the population. But a good decoration looks great on TV and fits very well with marketing. You can see the result of before and after in the link of this tweet:

That's it, my friends. And it looks like it will continue in the same way during the chapters of this 1st season. Let's see if with luck, there is a continuation in a 2nd and The producer is reconsidering the issue of the absence of technicians and all the mandatory legal issues in the reality of construction works. I don't know if it would be more or less interesting, but for me personally, everything that resembles reality is more enriching. Because on television, they throw in everything and we viewers are old enough to differentiate what is useful to us from what is not.

Did you like it? I look forward to your comments here and on social media.

See you next week, my hearts.
