4th week of the program Builder on the run on television, and 4th article that I bring you in reference to what was seen and not seen in the same #constructorZamora.
Today I would like to talk about how I personally think that society sees technicians In general, whether they are Architects or Quantity Surveyors, when it comes to having to face the search for one or more of them.
One thing we can find is that a client think that we are not worth anything more than signing a paper (because the attributions say so), when he tells us so calmly: "The Town Hall told me to look for an Architect to build a picnic area on the plot. But what is this man doing? I have already called the builder to build 4 walls and a roof". Well, look, it will allow you that when you go to connect to the water and the light, don't have any problem because your property complies with the law. If it snows, your roof will not collapse, because this meteorological factor has been taken into account. If it rains, water will not enter through the walls, because a perimeter drainage system will be designed to prevent this. If… if… if…

In short, all those things are supposed to a good bricklayer They also solve these problems based on their extensive experience, doing and seeing all kinds of work. And even so, it is not their job to know which windows are better or worse; what height to give the cornice or what to do to carry out quality control and traceability as important as the concrete they serve us on site. Unfortunately, not all of them are equally good, or equally legal, not as cheap, nor the same as scoundrels; for example, the unpresentable people shown in Constructor a la Fuga (be careful, it's TV and you have to take the information with a grain of salt because the most important thing is the spectacle). It wouldn't be bad to talk from time to time about people who do well in life; but that's how it is, what sells are calamities and morbidity.
Yesterday's program was similar to the previous three, but I especially noticed something that I didn't like at all: A presenter/driver making puppets on a wall while he was tearing off tiles and throwing them into the yard, when he is supposed to be the one who has to set an example. Can you imagine my namesake Chicote taking trays out of the oven without gloves, doing his business in a corner of the dining room, or combing his “mane” while making a paella for 500 diners; no, right? To carry out and organize a play (and even less a TV program) No titles are needed; you need to have common sense. And I hope someone who foolishly puts himself at risk does so because he doesn't know what he's up against if he crashes during filming.

At this point in the film, if we no longer expect that one day a director of works will appear on the program, as if to show us his paw a Security Coordinator (in the execution phase)…
For those who don't know, this figure is mandatory in all works of construction where go work for more than one company; whether or not there is a construction project; whether it is a minor or major work. Imagine the typical case of re-tiled in a community of owners: a bricklayer dismantles and assembles the new roof, but during the works, he subcontracts the spraying with «Aislamientos Proyectados, SL» and the waterproofing with «Todocauchos, SL». Nothing ever happens, but if something were to happen, The community of owners would have a serious problem for the resulting liability that corresponds to it as Promoter.
I understand that most of the time It is due to ignorance of all this. I think that for any Iberian inhabitant, it would be easier to contact from the start a person who does the following:
- Prepare the specific report or project to request a building permit from the City Council, and request it directly on behalf of your client.
- Help with the search for quotes to the president of the community or the administrator, comparing the different games with a technical criterion that neither one nor the other possess by magic.
- Help with the preparation of the final service provision contract with the company that is awarded the contract.
- Plan, coordinate and manage financial means and personal during the work; solving any problems that may arise along the way.
- Assume the health and safety coordination in the execution phase.
- Measure the work month by month so that what is really paid is what is executed, without inflating budgets and without forgetting anything essential.
- Give the final go-ahead to the repair, once you are certain that everything is correct, and leave it in writing as warranty.
- Prevent a client from advancing money without having any material, people or work performed on the project, and the clever contractor makes you a «Builder on the run».
And all this for a relationship cost/value very small. Doing things and not having problems, I think that is something that most mortals would like.
But we already know that in Spain, our uncle has tiled our kitchen, our cousin has painted our façade and our neighbour has changed our boiler. Because in the construction trade in general, we let anyone with complete confidence get their hands on the precious treasure that is our home. But we change the battery in our watch at the jewellery store, we take our pet to a hairdresser and when something hurts us we go to the doctor; we have it as a good habit, and it doesn't occur to us to go to our godmother's house to cure the sprain we got playing football with our children.

I invite you to reflect. The comments section below is open for you to express your opinion, for or against what I have just told you.
People understand each other by talking.
See you next time 😀
