EVEN IF IT'S THE THING, MONEY IS WHAT MATTERS
When in our reform The end is approaching, the time has also come liquidate the money with our contractor or contractors. And friends, this, which may seem like a mere formality, can become the worst of problems if we do not have an initial budget with a fixed price. And let's not even mention if during the course of the work, we have wanted to change everything on the fly: a built-in closet here, some plaster moldings there, a stainless steel border in the kitchen... (how dangerous are those catalogs).
If we have a technician that we pay for As owners, they will be responsible for scrupulously measuring the work carried out, and most importantly, in the company of the companies that are going to invoice us for the work. This way there will be no possibility of claiming that they do not agree with the measurement and the 87 m2 of tiling will be 87 and not 105 as "Manolo and Benito" wanted us to believe. What has not been done will not appear on the invoice.
As for the "extras" that we have been adding to our sports floor, we will have someone behind pending having obtained a prior budget in accordance with the market and we We will avoid unpleasant surprises when it comes to loosening the purse strings (I have seen bills for €1,200 for moving a partition wall that has already been built).
All this about having a technician on site sounds good, but how much does it cost me?
Fortunately (or unfortunately), we live in a country where professional fees are free. There will be those who do it for us for FREE (at first glance) and those who will "help" us a lot because they use a Porsche to go on site visits. It all depends on the volume to be controlled and the complexity of the work, but as a starting point, I understand that a percentage of 4% on the final reform budget is reasonable. Let's say you've spent €20,000. Would it seem like a lot to invest €800 in someone who will save you the disappointment of seeing a finished project with completely avoidable defects? Not only that, but they won't let you be charged extra and will walk around the project in your place on more than one occasion.
I am convinced that all this that I have just told you you were not even 100% aware that it could be done. But yes (even if it is wrong for me to say so), Our most useful functions for citizens are poorly promoted from the highest levels of the profession; this despite paying an absurd amount of monthly fees to professional associations month after month, whether you are working or sitting at home cross-stitching.
So, listen to me and don't think twice, hire a technician for your renovation.
We have all worked as bricklayers at some point in our lives; but surely the The final result, while not bad, could be greatly improved.
I would like to state that there are many good contractors, with and without technicians on their staff, so I ask that good professionals do not take what I have just expressed in this post as a reference.
I encourage you to comment on this matter, and/or share your own experiences with renovations you have made in your homes.
Likewise, it is of great help to me if you share this on your social networks. Keep in mind that even if it doesn't help you, there may be someone in your circle who is having a similar problem. Logically, if I gain a client, I will be grateful to you and I won't deny anyone a Christmas card 😉
